I wasn't using this skirt anymore because I didn't like how it fit... So I decided to practice making a pair of shorts!

Same old story. I've had this skirt for a long time, I got it super cheap from Primark but I never really liked the way it fit me so I barely used it.

(Guilty of fast-fashion consumerism here... 🙋‍♀️)

But as I am in this journey through Slow Fashion, conscious shopping (and sewing learning) I decided I would try and make a pair of shorts out of this skirt!

It was a very troubled journey this one 😅

First of all, as always, I got a pair of shorts that I like to use as a pattern.

Cutting the pattern in the skirt wasn't as easy as I thought.

The skirt's front seam went straight down, while the shorts have a little curve.

So I added that little triangle that was missing with some extra fabric from the skirt. I had a little trouble making it fit properly.

I think if I would have made that triangle a little bit bigger, the shorts wouldn't be making those weird folds now. We also screwed up at the back. I asked my mom to cut off the extra length of the short and she cut too much, so now both legs aren't even and it looks weird (noticeable in the next pic, bottom right section).

I guess the lesson I've learned from this is not to cut them WHILE wearing them 😅 I should just mark where I want to cut, take them off, and cut them. Sounds easy, not sure why I didn't do that in the first place hahah

I think they are funny looking and super cool, but they are not very comfy and I cut them too short. But, nonetheless, I'm happy I made them, I got some practice and they don't look completely awful so that's a win 🎉

If you got to the end of this post,

thank you

And let's keep learning together! 💛
