Self-portrait photography evolution through +10 years

While I was putting together the post on how self-portrait photography helps me grow my self-esteem, I realized I have been using this photography style for more than 10 years 🤯
And every day I love it more and more. It helps me heal, grow, reconnect with my essence when I feel lost, and reconnect with my intimacy and sensuality when I feel alone.
I started +10 years ago with bathroom selfies, crazy Photoshop edits, and funny poses.
These pictures from my teenage years might look funny now, but taking the time to shoot them helped me get through tough times and feel more confident in my skin.
Throughout the years, luckily, I have been learning more about photography 😅 And my self-portraits have evolved with me as I enriched my photography skills, and as I grew and became a woman.
When my self-esteem was at its lowest, I was also struggling to connect with my sensuality or intimacy. I did not feel attractive at all, but being in a relaxed setting, on my own, with my favorite music and my camera played a big part in improving my confidence and being more comfortable with intimacy and my sensuality.
Not all self-portraits have to be intimate or sensual, but as a person who struggles to be naked even alone, creating this environment in which I feel safe and confident enough to be able to take pictures of myself half-naked has been life-changing.
As it is visible in the pictures, I still struggle to show my face and usually hide it with shadows or my arm or a blur.
So even, if I have become much more confident and my self-esteem is in a healthier place than 10 or even 5 years ago, it is still a work in progress. And for sure, it is not a linear one.
If you ever give it a try to a self-portrait photoshoot session, please, do let me know! I would love to hear your thoughts 💛
