What happens with our clothes when we throw them away? Let's talk about it!

Very often Slow Fashion is related to the need to improve the lives of the people who make our clothes.

But it is not only about the ethical issues of workers.

It is also about sustainability and improving our planet’s health.

We have all heard about the problem of landfills before. But I don’t think we quite get an idea of the magnitude of it.

How many times per year do you get rid of clothes?

How many clothes have you thrown away in the last 5 years?

Maybe you think it isn’t so much.

But imagine literally EVERYONE doing the same.

Obviously, there will always be people who produce much more waste than you and me. And people who produce much less.

But thinking that everyone produces just the same waste as us all around the world…

Wouldn’t that be too much?

Well, yes it is.

And to make it look clearer, here's some data I've found in a very interesting article from BBC that speaks about how clothes are recycled.

Reading all this data is chilling.

These numbers are crazy and we as consumers but, mostly, companies have to start really making changes in the way we treat Fast Fashion waste and fabric recycling.

I will read more about how companies are dealing with clothing waste and recycling. And also about the recycling techniques for fabrics, which apparently is more complicated than it may seem at first, and I will make a post about it soon ✌️

If you got to the end of this post,

thank you ✨

I would love to know your thoughts about Fast Fashion landfills and what can we do as consumers.

Leave a comment and let's learn together! 💛
